I am a fourth-year journalism major at San Diego State with a minor in creative editing and publishing. I first became interested in journalism after participating in my high school’s broadcast station. Through connecting with students and staff members, I realized I enjoyed the art of telling someone’s story, especially through a visual perspective. This motivated me to pursue a career in journalism, and through my college experience, I have explored both print and broadcast media. Before coming to SDSU, I attended El Camino College for two years. During my time there, I got my first taste of print media, and I went on to become a reporter for the student-run newspaper, The Union. With The Union, I won an award for “Best Opinion Story,” attended the College Media Association conference in New York, and landed my first internship with NBC.
Now at SDSU, I serve as the Multimedia Editor for The Daily Aztec and the Social Media Manager for the Society of Professional Journalists chapter on campus. For me, journalism has given me a wonderful opportunity to view the world through people’s eyes and perspectives. My ultimate goal is to be a TV news anchor or reporter who brings a new sense of energy and creativity to the screen.
One of my favorite quotes that I live by is from Beyoncé, who once said, “It’s not about perfection, it’s about purpose.” This quote is something I live by not only as a person, but as a journalist. I strive to bring purpose to every story I report on.
